A student allegedly discharged a firearm several times inside a classroom
A female student in the Russian city of Bryansk brought a firearm into the classroom on Thursday and discharged it several times, media outlets have reported.
TASS reported the shooter was an 8th grader, which would put her in her early teens. According to RIA Novosti, she injured four boys before taking her own life. Both outlets cited sources in law enforcement.
A conflicting account from local emergency services said there were two fatalities in the shooting, including the perpetrator.
SHOT, an online news outlet, claimed that the weapon involved was a hunting shotgun, which the girl allegedly took from her father.
School shootings are relatively rare in Russia. Bryansk, a city located some 340km southwest of Moscow, experienced an incident involving an air gun in 2014, when a 15-year-old student brought one to school and used it during a conflict with classmates. One of the projectiles he fired ricocheted off a wall and slightly injured a girl.
