Perplexity launches AI-powered Comet browser on Android

Perplexity is expanding its presence in the mobile space with the launch of its AI-powered browser, Comet, now available for download on Android. The new app brings the core features of its desktop counterpart, establishing Comet as one of the first major AI-centric browsers available on a mobile platform.

The Comet browser integrates Perplexity’s powerful AI assistant directly into the mobile surfing experience.

Key features available in the Android app mirror the desktop functionality:

  • Integrated AI Assistant: Users can easily summon the built-in AI assistant while browsing the web.
  • Voice Mode: Users can engage the browser via voice commands to chat about the information in their currently open tabs.
  • AI Summaries: The assistant can generate concise summaries of web pages being viewed.

The arrival of Comet on Android positions it uniquely in the mobile browser landscape. While competitors are innovating—like Google integrating Gemini into Chrome (acting more like an extension) and ChatGPT’s Atlas being restricted to macOS—Comet aims to deliver a full-fledged AI browsing experience on mobile.

The Comet browser originally launched on desktop for Perplexity Max subscribers in July before seeing a wider release last month.

While the initial Android release is robust, Perplexity confirms that it is actively working on integrating key features:

  • Synchronization: The ability to sync browsing history and bookmarks between the mobile and desktop versions of Comet is slated to roll out in the coming weeks.
  • Full Agentic Voice Mode: A more advanced, fully agentic voice mode is currently under development.
  • Built-in Password Manager: Perplexity plans to add its own password manager, though users can currently utilize Android’s native password manager with the Comet app.

This launch signals Perplexity’s commitment to making its powerful conversational AI a seamless part of everyday mobile internet use.
