A leading Brazilian biofuels company Be8, has developed a new biofuel capable of fully replacing fossil fuels, the development was revealed at the ongoing COP30 talks in Belém, Brazil.

Be8, and Mercedes-Benz of Brazil presented the results of the COP30 Sustainable Route during the 30th Conference of the Parties in Belém.

This initiative was carried out in partnership with the Government of Brazil and covered more than 4.000 kilometers of highways across the country with Euro 6 trucks powered exclusively by Be8 BeVant, a renewable biofuel developed by Be8.

The results showed that BeVant can fully replace fossil diesel without requiring technical adaptations or additional investments in the vehicles, while maintaining the same performance, reliability, and power.

According to preliminary data from the Mauá Institute of Technology, the operation recorded a reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of up to 99 percent compared to mineral diesel, and a reduction of approximately 65 percent throughout the fuel’s production-to-use cycle. This consolidates the product as an immediate and effective solution for decarbonizing heavy transport.

According to Be8’s president, Erasmo Carlos Battistella, the results prove that the energy transition can happen now available, economically viable technologies.

“BeVant demonstrates that Brazil has the capacity to lead global decarbonization in a sustainable way, valuing its clean energy matrix and the responsible agribusiness that produces our raw materials,” Battistella said.

Meanwhile, Luiz Carlos Moraes, the vice president of Institutional Relations at Mercedes-Benz of Brazil, emphasized the automotive industry’s commitment to environmental goals. “This partnership reinforces our commitment to solutions that combine innovation, efficiency, and sustainability, preparing transportation for a carbon-neutral future,” he said

Luiz Carlos Saraiva, Be8’s head of Government Relations, also noted that the company’s initiative is unprecedented in Brazil. “Green diesel (HVO) can also fully replace fossil diesel, but it is not yet produced in Brazil yet and is much more expensive. BeVant, however, is produced domestically, is affordable, and is ready for immediate use.”

During COP30, a truck powered by Be8 BeVant, an Actros Evolution, is on display in the Green Zone. It symbolizes Brazil’s progress toward low-carbon mobility and marks the partnership between Be8 and Mercedes-Benz as a milestone in the new Brazilian green economy.

Brazil is currently the world’s second-largest producer of biofuels. In October of this year, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva emphasized the country’s vocation to leading the energy transition by example and reaffirmed the quality of Brazil’s biofuels during a meeting with representatives from both companies.
