You can now instantly demo Fortnite via Discord

Epic Games is trying to draw new players to its Fortnite free-to-play battle royale by enabling instant game demos directly within Discord. This new feature, powered by Nvidia’s GeForce Now cloud gaming service, allows users to try the game on PC without needing to install it.

Discord users who don’t have Fortnite installed can access two 30-minute trial sessions per week. The trial runs until October 30th, with sessions refreshing every Tuesday at 9:59 AM ET.

To participate, you must be a PC player located in the US, UK, Mexico, Canada, or certain European countries. You can access the demo by following the sign-up link provided on Epic’s announcement page, which will redirect you to Discord.

Users are required to be signed into both their Discord and Epic Games accounts to connect them for the trial. Epic assures that it does not share player data with Nvidia or Discord, though it notes those companies “may independently” collect data.

While the feature is officially available in several regions, there have been early reports of access issues. For example, some UK-based users have been unable to launch the experience without connecting to a US server via a VPN.

The Fortnite trial is the first instant game demo experiment resulting from the partnership between Nvidia and Discord. This collaboration suggests that Discord users may be able to instantly try out other titles via cloud streaming in the near future.
