Seminar in connection with International Women’s Day

Asmara, 5 March 2024 – The Central Region branch of the National Union of Eritrean Women hosted a seminar on March 4 in connection with the International Women’s Day focusing on “The Role of a Robust Women’s Organization in National Affairs”. This year’s International Women’s Day is being celebrated under the theme “Equality: Our Core Principle.”

The event saw participation from union branch heads, various line ministries, and women representatives across the region’s 16 sub-zones. Ms. Alem Belai, the regional union branch head, emphasized the critical role of organizational strength in advancing gender equality and enhancing women’s engagement in national matters.

Mr. Simon Woldemicael, the seminar coordinator, highlighted the indispensable role of women in achieving national independence, stating, “National independence could not have been realized without the active participation of women.” He further credited Eritrean women’s significant contributions to the nation’s independence and in safeguarding the national sovereignty.

Mr. Woldemicael also called on women to bolster their organizational capabilities to contribute effectively to the union’s goals.

In a related event, Mr. Rezene Michael, the PFDJ secretary for the Southern Red Sea Region, held a seminar in Assab for women workers, focusing on women’s transformative role in society. Mr. Michael underscored the pivotal contributions of Eritrean women in achieving independence and maintaining national sovereignty and encouraged women to enhance their skills to meet the demands of the technological era.

Additionally, Mr. Osman Abdulkadir, head of the National Union of Eritrean Youth and Students in the Southern Red Sea Region, engaged with young teachers, discussing the critical role of teachers in developing competent students.

These events underscore the ongoing efforts to empower women and teachers highlighting their vital roles in the nation’s socio-political landscape.
