President Isaias Afwerki Returns Home

Asmara, 09 June 2024 – President Isaias Afwerki returned home late yesterday evening, concluding his visit to the Republic of Korea.

At the invitation of President Yoon Suk Yeol of the Republic of Korea, President Isaias Afwerki traveled to Seoul to participate in the first 2024 South Korea-Africa Summit, held from June 3-4.

On the sidelines of the summit, President Isaias met and held discussions with President Yoon Suk Yeol of the Republic of Korea, President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Algeria, and Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties and issues of mutual interest.

The meetings were attended by Mr. Osman Saleh, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Estifanos Afwerki, Eritrea’s Ambassador to Japan.

The summit, convened under the theme “The Future We Make Together: Shared Growth, Sustainability, and Solidarity,” was attended by representatives from 48 African countries, including 25 leaders, as well as officials from the African Union and the African Development Bank. The objective of the summit was to strengthen economic, political, and diplomatic relations and cooperation between the Republic of Korea and African countries.
